Thanks to everyone that commented on my cameo blog attempt.   And I have three followers already - Doug & Sue; Bill & Karen and Joe & Betty.  Welcome aboard.  I look forward to following your adventures and hope to learn from your experiences.
We purchased a 2008 Day Dreamer - 39'.  We still need to buy a truck to pull it.  We have done a ton of research on what kind of truck we need and have had a variety of answers from a variety of "experts".  We pretty much have decided on a 3500 diesel and believe that we are best with a slider hitch.  But we are still uncertain about the length of the box or if we need duel wheels.  As this will also be our daily vehicle when not towing we really hope to be able to avoid the duel wheels and the long box.  If anyone out there has any advise for us it would be appreciated.
Until next time - safe travels.

  1. You said you have a 39 foot trailer so they are generall heavy. The more slides the heavier the trailer, but what you really have to look at is called Pin Weight. If you are over 2500 pounds (you won't like this) it's wise to go with a dually. It handles the weight better and when you get hit with a cross wind it will hold the road better.

Diesel power is what you'll also need because gasoline power pulling that much weight will put you in the poor house. The cost of maintenance is higher but you also get more miles between oil changes and a diesel engine is just getting broken in around 100,000 miles and can last up to 1,000,000 with go maintenance. Look towards a good used unit to save on the highly inflated prices of a new truck that will drop like a rock as soon as you drive it off the lot.

If the 1 ton dually truck you get has a long box it will actually ride smoother than the short box. Also with a long box you won't need a sliding hitch. Rigid hitches are cheaper and more reliable, the less moving parts the less can go wrong.

    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

    1. Thank you for all your input. It is good to hear it from someone who is living the lifestyle and knows what they are talking about. I appreciate the advise.

  3. I used to live in Calgary and grew up in Saskatchewan. The Stampede was always a blast.
We did a road trip last summer to Saskatchewan and really enjoyed the drive. The scenery was beautiful.
Have a great time out west this summer. I will be watching your blog and enjoying the trip right along with you.
