St. Patrick's Day

My paternal great-grandparents came from County Tyrone, Ireland.  The Irish blood runs deep.  Wishing everyone today a Happy St. Patrick's Day whether you are Irish or not.

Yesterday my first granddaughter turned 20.  I remember holding her when she was about 20 minutes old.  How the years have flown by.

She was 4 pounds 10 ounces when she was born.  No bigger than a minute.  Like Uncle George used to say " just a little fart in a mitt".  And look at her today.  A beautiful, intelligent young woman ready to take on the world.  She is a registered Emergency Medical Responder with a passion for helping those in need.  She recently returned from a vacation in Mexico.  A gift from her boyfriend for her 20th birthday.  She has recovered almost completely from the broken ankle she received on the ski hills in Jasper in December.  She is ready now to get her resume out there to find her dream job of helping others.

Happy Birthday sweetie.  Love you to pieces.

Until next time - safe travels.

Another Milestone

Can you imagine!!!  I turned 60 last Sunday and I was 40 just a couple of weeks ago.  I am not sure where the past 20 years have gone but they have flown by.  And they have been a lot of fun.  What can I say!!

Sunday we met our son and daughter-in-law, Stuart and Heajin, at Moxie's in Newmarket for my birthday dinner.  It was a great meal and great company.

Stu, Heajin and Jen gave me a gift certificate for a day at the spa, Twyla, Joe and the Grands sent a Pandora bracelet with a beautiful "Mom" charm.  Twyla said that I am hard to buy for (which is true) and the bracelet will make future purchases easier.

When Tom started taking guitar lessons I joked about learning how to play the harmonica.  Well he took me seriously and bought me one.  I think he will live to regret that decision but it will be fun trying to blast out a tune or two.  Maybe we will start our own band :)

Many thanks to everyone that called and emailed birthday wishes.  Love you all.  It was a great day.

Last week our daughter, Jennifer, started her trip across country from Ontario to Alberta to start a new job as a dental hygienist.  She made her way through some good roads and some bad, some sunshine and some snow.

She spent Saturday night  in Saskatoon with my old school friend, Jean, where she got to check out the  ponies and baby lambs.

Sunday she finished her trip arriving at her new home.  We wish her much luck in her job and change in demographics.

Today I had a visit with my orthopedic surgeon (finally) and have been booked in for a total knee replacement on May 22nd.  He said he can't understand how I am able to walk as well as I do.  It is seriously bone-on-bone.

This is what the new one will look like.

Can't wait to get it done and over with so I can get back on the hiking trails.  Can't imagine it will keep me down for too long.  Until next time  - safe travels.
